A Pair of Yunomi Teacups by the 7th Generation Ogasawara Tōuemon（1943–） (Nabeshima Ware)
To commemorate the launch of our new Japanese tableware collection, I am pleased to offer a pair of yunomi teacups from my private collection, acquired approximately 30 years ago.
Although the original wooden storage box shows natural resin seepage due to age and long-term storage, the teacups themselves remain in pristine, unused condition.
Nabeshima ware represents the highest achievement of Imari porcelain and was produced exclusively at the official kilns of the Nabeshima Domain. These pieces were created under exacting standards as presentation wares for the shogunate and as gifts for feudal lords, and were never intended for ordinary use. After the fall of the shogunate, the domain kilns evolved into independent civilian kilns, while faithfully preserving the refined aesthetic and superb craftsmanship of the Nabeshima tradition.
This exquisite pair is decorated with a finely painted omoto (Japanese sacred lily) motif on luminous white porcelain. It would make a distinguished addition to any serious collection.
