Wajima-nuri Maki-e Individual Serving Plates (Set of 10)

销售价格$520.00

This exquisite set of ten Maki-e individual serving plates was crafted in Wajima, Ishikawa Prefecture, renowned as Japan's foremost center of fine lacquerware production. The set features five traditional motifs inspired by the beauty of the seasons: maple leaves, bellflowers, bush clover, camellias, and cherry blossoms, with two plates of each design.

Against a lustrous black lacquer ground, elegant Maki-e decorations depicting seasonal flowers have been meticulously executed, embodying the refinement, dignity, and timeless beauty for which Wajima lacquerware is celebrated.

Each plate has been carefully finished entirely by hand by skilled artisans. From the application of lacquer to the intricate Maki-e decoration, every stage of production demands exceptional craftsmanship and years of experience. The result is a work that possesses a warmth, character, and sense of authenticity that cannot be replicated by mass-produced wares.

Maki-e is one of Japan's most celebrated lacquerware techniques, in which designs are created by delicately sprinkling gold, silver, or other metallic powders onto wet lacquer. These intricate hand-crafted decorations work in harmony with the rich sheen of the lacquer, creating a remarkable sense of depth and radiance that has captivated admirers for centuries.

I am pleased to offer this exceptional set from my personal collection, where it has been carefully preserved for many years. As a result of long-term storage, the original wooden presentation box exhibits slight discoloration caused by the natural oils of the wood. The plates themselves, however, remain in pristine, unused condition and have never been used other than for the present photography session. Each plate is individually wrapped in a traditional turmeric-dyed cloth, a material that has long been used in Japan for the careful preservation of fine lacquerware. Because every piece was crafted entirely by hand, subtle variations can be found even among plates bearing the same design. These delicate differences are not imperfections, but rather a reflection of the artist's hand and the individuality of each piece. Discovering these unique characteristics is part of the pleasure of owning authentic handcrafted Japanese lacquerware. We invite you to experience the timeless beauty of Maki-e, one of Japan's most celebrated decorative arts, and the extraordinary craftsmanship passed down through generations of master artisans.
